Pumpkin Spice Smoothies

by Bri Butz

There’s something about  September when the weather starts to turn and Starbucks rolls out their famous Pumpkin Spice Latte…I just can’t resist the temptation.  My obsession doesn’t stop there…I’m a sucker for all things pumpkin! Fall is my favorite time of year to bake and it wouldn’t be complete without all of the delicious pumpkin recipes!

I created this healthy pumpkin smoothie to help me stay balanced with all of the indulgent treats this time of year brings! As most people know, I love greek yogurt! I eat it pretty much everyday and you can find it in many of my recipes as a sub for mayo. I usually have it with fresh berries, cheerios or in a smoothie. With so much pumpkin in my pantry I felt the need to throw it into my weekly greek yogurt snack.

Frozen bananas are my go to for a cold and creamy smoothie. They add a natural sweetness to round out the tartness from the greek yogurt. A touch of all the typical fall flavors….cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and clove give this treat the perfect amount of Pumpkin Spice! A little bit of chocolate goes a long way and I’ve found that cocoa powder is a great pair with pumpkin. Top it off with chia seeds, and some whipped cream and you’re breakfast, midday snack or after dinner dessert is ready to go!

I usually eat my smoothies right away, however you can definitely make this ahead.  If you like it extra cold, pop it in the freezer for about 30 minutes and enjoy with a spoon!

Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days or freezer up to 6 months. Allow smoothie to thaw in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving with a spoon.

You can also sub in your favorite dairy free yogurt and whipped topping to make this vegan!

Pumpkin Spice Smoothies are healthy and delicious!
